About Your Teacher
Hi! I’m Lisa. I’m an educator, health coach, nutritionist, and trauma specialist.
After getting my degree and traveling the world I became a teacher. In my teaching career I focused on helping children and adolescents learn Social and Emotional skills alongside their academics. In 2017 I started a non-profit that teaches mental/emotional, physical, and community methods of recovering from trauma to elementary school children. My program uses a story based structure that helped children identify the character they wanted to become in their own life stories and go on an inner journey to discover the tools, information, and people that could help them create their own personal happy ending.
At the time I was struggling with my weight. I was morbidly obese and through the work I was doing I realized the root of my physical issues was unresolved trauma from my childood as well as being a victim of sexual and domestic abuse in my early adulthood. I began my own healing journey and vowed to use what I had learned to help other struggling in the same way.
After hitting rock bottom at 30, I began to do the work and change my life. I was over 300lbs, prediabetic, and could barely walk around the block. I felt alone, hopeless, and broken. I wanted to change my story and recover the person I knew I was inside. I studied. I sought help from support groups, therapy, and coaching. I became certified in Holistic Nutrition and focused on nutritional psychology-how the foods we eat can support or hurt our mental wellbeing. Starting from scratch I learned how to regain my fitness. I studied therapeutic and lifestyle methods for trauma recovery through Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk M.D’s world renowned institute for Traumatic Stress Studies.
It worked.
I lost over 100lbs. I became extremely fit and completed an Ironman 70.3 triathlon in Barcelona. Rebuilt the foundation of my life. Built a supportive community of friends and found joy in my relationships again. I found freedom from anxiety, depression and c-PTSD. I learned to eat in a way that nourishes me and reversed my pre-diabetes and restored my medical health to pre-obesity levels.
But more than that.
I got happy again.
Really. Really. Happy.
I want to help you do the same. I’ve spent years cataloguing my personal journey, identifying what works for me, researching methods and studies to create a proven methodology for change. And I’ve used my background as an educator, curriculum designer, public speaker, coach, and writer to create a structured program to facilitate change for anyone struggling like I was. I’ve designed the program I would have wanted for myself.
Group Schedule
Each group session will start with a presentation about the topic, full of information, resources and tools around that specific issue. Following that, there will be group discussion, Q&A and group coaching.
At the end of the session you’ll be given a practice technique, exercise, homework, or challenge given to complete by the following week.
The goal is to explore these issues one-by-one while integrating new habits and practices in a manageable, gentle, and effective way.
By the end of the 9 week program, you’ll have tools and techniques to help you move forward and a group of friends on a similar journey who can help support you as you change your life.
